Request Blood Work Online, Then Visit a Collection Centre
Pathology centres collect blood for tests that a doctor has requested. EasyScripts lets you ask for that request online. You tell us which blood test you are after and describe any symptoms, and a registered Australian doctor decides whether the tests are clinically appropriate.
If they are, you receive a pathology request form, or instructions on how to access it. You then attend a pathology collection centre and follow any preparation instructions, such as fasting. EasyScripts issues the request. The pathology provider collects your sample and runs the tests.
When a Blood Test Request Is Suitable
- You want to investigate symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, abdominal symptoms or weight change
- You want to monitor a known condition such as thyroid disease, diabetes, cholesterol or anaemia
- You want to review general health markers, where the doctor decides it is clinically relevant
- You are following up an earlier abnormal result or treatment plan
Blood tests are only one part of a medical assessment. They may not explain every symptom, and the doctor may recommend an examination or consultation before ordering tests.
How an Online Blood Test Request Works
2
Choose a time and pay
3
A registered Australian doctor reviews your information and decides whether blood tests are clinically appropriate. If they need more detail, they may arrange a short phone or video consult.
4
Receive your pathology request form
If the doctor approves the tests, you receive a pathology request form, or instructions on how to access it.
5
Visit a pathology collection centre
Take your request form to a pathology collection centre and follow any preparation instructions, such as fasting. The pathology provider collects your sample.
Requests as early as the same day
Most requests are processed on the day. A request that needs a closer look can take longer.
Before and After Your Blood Test
The doctor requests the tests. The pathology provider handles the collection and the lab work.
Follow the Preparation Steps
Some tests need fasting, and some have timing requirements. Follow any instructions that come with your request, and tell the doctor if you have diabetes or are pregnant.
Visit a Collection Centre
Take your request form to a pathology collection centre. The pathology provider collects your sample and runs the tests, so check its locations and opening hours.
Results Go to the Doctor
Pathology results are sent directly to the doctor. Results can be normal when symptoms continue, or show something unexpected that needs follow-up.
For blood tests, fasting usually means plain water only, and the time depends on the test. Speak to your doctor before fasting if you have diabetes or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Source: healthdirect, Fasting for medical tests.
What an Online Blood Test Request Costs
Blood tests are not always requested
The doctor only requests tests they can justify clinically. If that is not possible, you will be contacted with the option to book a telehealth consultation for further review.
When to Seek Urgent Care
A blood test request is for planned testing. It is not the right step for an emergency.
Chest Pain, Breathing Difficulty or Fainting
Chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath, fainting or severe dehydration need urgent assessment. Go to your nearest emergency department or call 000. This is a recognised medical emergency.
Signs of a Stroke or Severe Weakness
A drooping face, severe weakness, confusion or a sudden change in vision. Call 000 straight away. This is a recognised stroke emergency. Any rapidly worsening condition also needs urgent help.
General information only. If either of the above applies to you right now, do not wait for an online consultation.

Blood Test FAQs
Can I get blood work done online in Australia?
Yes. You complete an online form about the blood test you are after, and a registered Australian doctor reviews your request. If the doctor decides the tests are clinically appropriate, you receive a pathology request form, or instructions on how to access it, and attend a pathology collection centre to give your sample. Every request is a clinical decision, so none is guaranteed.
Do I need to see a GP before I request a blood test?
No GP visit is needed to make a request. A doctor reviews it online and may arrange a short phone or video consult, or ask for more information. If the doctor decides you need an examination or consultation before ordering tests, they will tell you.
How long does it take to receive my pathology request?
Most requests are processed on the same day. A more complex request can take up to 2 days to review.
Where do I have my blood taken?
At a pathology collection centre. Take your request form there and follow any preparation instructions. The pathology provider collects your sample and runs the tests, so check its locations and opening hours.
Do I need to fast before my blood test?
Some tests need fasting and some have timing requirements, so follow any instructions that come with your request. For blood tests, fasting usually means plain water only, and the time depends on the test. Speak to your doctor before fasting if you have diabetes or are pregnant or breastfeeding. What blood tests can I request?
You tell us which test you are after, and the doctor decides what is appropriate. Tests are commonly requested to investigate symptoms such as fatigue or dizziness, to monitor conditions such as thyroid disease, diabetes, cholesterol or anaemia, and to follow up an earlier abnormal result. Tests that are not appropriate, not available through standard pathology services or that need specialist management may not be requested.
How much does an online blood test request cost?
Blood test requests start from $55. The fee is shown before you pay, with no hidden costs. This is a private service, so Medicare does not cover the fee. The pathology provider’s fees are separate, and whether it bulk bills is its own decision, so ask when you book.
Why might a blood test request be declined?
A doctor may decline a request if your symptoms suggest you need urgent care or an immediate in-person assessment, if they cannot safely justify the tests from the information provided, if the tests are not appropriate or not available through standard pathology services, or if an examination or consultation is needed first. If we cannot proceed, you will be contacted with the option to book a telehealth consultation for further review, or offered a refund if continuing is not suitable.
How do I get my results?
Pathology results are sent directly to the doctor. Blood tests are one part of a medical assessment. Results can be normal when symptoms continue, or show something unexpected that needs follow-up, and the doctor may recommend an in-person review or a referral depending on what they show.
Is my medical information kept private?
Yes. Your personal and medical information is handled in confidence and in line with Australian health privacy standards. It is encrypted and accessible only to authorised clinicians.
