Consent for Telehealth Consultations

This service provides a telehealth consultation (phone or video) with a registered Australian doctor. Telehealth can be appropriate for many conditions, but it does not replace ongoing care with your regular GP or an in-person examination when one is needed.

What telehealth can be used for

Telehealth is generally suitable for:

Assessing common symptoms and illnesses
Medical advice and treatment planning
Referrals, medical certificates, or prescriptions when clinically appropriate
Follow-up of previously discussed issues

Important: outcomes are not guaranteed

During or after your telehealth consultation, you understand that:

A prescription, referral, medical certificate, investigation request, or diagnosis may not be provided if the doctor cannot safely or clinically justify it
The doctor may recommend in-person assessment, urgent care, or emergency services where appropriate
The doctor may request additional information (e.g., photos, medication lists, test results) to make a safe decision

Your responsibilities (please read carefully)

By proceeding, you confirm that:

The information you provide is true, accurate, and complete to the best of your knowledge
You will disclose relevant medical history, allergies, medications (including supplements), and pregnancy status where relevant
You understand that withholding information may affect safety and may result in the doctor being unable to provide treatment or documentation
You are attending from a private and safe location where you can speak openly

Limitations of telehealth

You understand that:

Telehealth has limitations because the doctor may not be able to perform a physical examination
The doctor’s assessment relies on your symptoms, history, and any information you provide
Some conditions cannot be safely assessed by telehealth and require face-to-face review

Safety first - urgent symptoms

If you have severe or worsening symptoms, you must seek urgent medical care immediately:

Call 000 in Australia for emergencies, or attend the nearest Emergency Department.
This includes (but isn’t limited to) chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, severe weakness, confusion, severe allergic reaction, severe abdominal pain, or suicidal thoughts.

Privacy and recordings

Your consultation is confidential and handled according to applicable privacy requirements.
You agree not to record the consultation without the doctor’s permission (and you understand the doctor will not record without appropriate consent where required).

What happens next

If the doctor needs more detail, you may be asked to:

Provide additional information, or
Attend an in-person appointment, urgent care, or Emergency Department.
