Ultrasound Referrals
Skip the wait for a GP appointment. Complete a short online request, and if a scan is clinically appropriate, your referral is emailed to you, often the same day.
The First Hurdle Is Usually the Referral

If your doctor has suggested an ultrasound, or you have a symptom that needs a closer look, most imaging clinics require a request form signed by a medical practitioner before they will book your scan. Getting one traditionally means waiting for a GP appointment.

EasyScripts removes that wait. You complete a short online request, one of our doctors reviews it, and if an ultrasound is clinically appropriate, your referral is sent to you by email. From there you can book your scan through our own ultrasound service, or at any imaging clinic of your choice, anywhere in Australia.

Is This the Right Path for You ?

1
Complete the online request
Tell us about your symptoms or the scan you have been advised to get. It takes a few minutes and can be done on your phone.

2

One of our doctors reviews your request
They assess whether an ultrasound is clinically appropriate. If they need more information, they will arrange a telehealth consultation with you first.

3

Receive your referral by email
Once approved, your referral is sent to you as early as the same day.

4

Book your scan

Book directly through our ultrasound service, or take the referral to an imaging clinic near you. The results come back to the doctor, and we contact you to discuss what they show.

Where You Can Use Your Referral, and the Bulk-Billing Question
The most common questions we hear are about where the referral can be used and what the scan itself will cost.

Book Through EasyScripts

Keeps everything in one place. The same team that issued your referral receives your results and follows up with you.

Use Any Imaging Provider

Your referral is also accepted at recognised radiology and imaging providers across Australia, so you can choose a clinic that suits you.

Ask About Billing Upfront

Whether your scan is bulk billed depends on the imaging provider and scan type, not on where the referral came from. Ask when you book.

What the Referral Costs
The EasyScripts consultation fee is privately billed and shown to you before you pay, with no surprise charges afterwards. Medicare does not cover our fee. The cost of the ultrasound itself is separate and set by the imaging provider, so ask about it when you book your scan.
If the doctor determines an ultrasound is not appropriate for your situation, they will explain why, and where relevant point you toward a more suitable option, which may include seeing a doctor in person.

If your symptoms are severe or sudden, such as intense abdominal pain, heavy bleeding or chest pain, do not wait for a referral. Call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.

What Happens After Your Scan
Your results go back to the doctor who referred you, and they will let you know your next steps. If those steps include further care, we can easily arrange it for you online, the same way as your ultrasound referral.
Ultrasound Services FAQs
Do I need to see a doctor in person to get an ultrasound referral?
No. One of our doctors can assess your request online and issue a referral where it is clinically appropriate. If they need more detail, they will arrange a telehealth consultation by phone, video or message before deciding.

Yes. A referral issued through EasyScripts is a genuine imaging request from a registered Australian doctor, and imaging clinics treat it the same way they treat a referral written in a consulting room.

Most imaging clinics in Australia require a doctor’s request before performing a diagnostic ultrasound, and Medicare rebates generally apply only to referred scans. Rather than searching for a clinic that scans without one, it is usually faster and cheaper to obtain a valid referral online.
Once the doctor approves your request, your referral is emailed to you as early as the same day. You can then book your scan through our ultrasound service or with the imaging clinic of your choice.

Medicare does not cover the EasyScripts consultation fee, which is privately billed. The scan itself may attract a Medicare rebate or be bulk billed depending on the imaging provider, the scan type and your eligibility. Ask when you book.

The doctor will explain their reasoning and suggest a more appropriate next step. No outcome is ever guaranteed, because every request is a clinical decision, and that is what keeps the referral credible.
